When you’re
seeking something
to be grateful for,
look upon the sunset
and recall
how wonderful it is
that creation wasn’t formed
in only black and white.
Faith, Health, and Other Musings
May our minds flourish with creation, and may our hands never deny its expression.
When you’re
seeking something
to be grateful for,
look upon the sunset
and recall
how wonderful it is
that creation wasn’t formed
in only black and white.
I can scarcely
write poetry
when I’m with you
because
I’m far too overswept
by the way it feels

Thunderstorms
and hurricanes
deceive us
when they change course,
letting us believe
that disaster can
weave around us,
when death is a tempest
that will not miss.
It’s not a symptom
of disrespect
or irreverence
to want America to be better,
but is instead of the purest love:
a love that wants
to carry
something even higher.

It’s pain,
more than a priest,
that teaches you
how to pray.
As long as
the sun warms our skin,
the flakes give it chill,
and the fire scars it,
it is the same.
Grace is just a word
until you really
need it,
and
peace is just a sentiment,
until you
don’t have it.
Stress is like ocean water:
you either
harness its energy
to move beyond boundaries
or you
flounder, paralyzed,
beneath its enormity.
We’ve never
just been
beings of
how,
but things
of why.
We have known
miracles
and received
a glimpse of God,
for we have
seen a
Mother’s love.
